My Practice

With over nine years of tutoring experience and over four hundred students within the South Florida area alone, I have mastered the effective communication of difficult academic concepts.

My teaching approach involves absorbing the student’s perspective, relating the subject matter to his or her reality, emphasizing fundamentals, actively adjusting my teaching speed based on observed student response, developing personalized notes, sharing my enthusiasm to spark interest, mentoring to put current challenges into proper context and (arguably the most important) offering something to laugh at (usually me) to make the learning process more enjoyable.

The core of my tutoring practice is mutual respect. Playing the role of an authoritative figure, like some school staff prefer, is something I neither enjoy nor consider conductive to learning. In fact, I take a near opposite approach: The first thing I tell any new student of mine is that he or she in fact is the boss. I think this approach to empower my students as well as my patience and willingness to listen are what set me apart.

I accelerate and enhance the learning experience by using a variety of hardware and software. Furthermore, I have developed the ability to both read and write upside down which allows me to sit across the table ‐ directly in front of my students. This seating arrangement gives students personal space yet allows me to maintain eye contact with them in order to assess their level of mental engagement and genuine comprehension.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to assist students from a wide range of circumstances. To name a few: I have provided the extra edge to Valedictorians with a full AP course load, homeschooled traveling athletes, implemented individualized protocols prepared by therapists for students with special needs, assisted adult students pursuing MBA or GED degrees and even tutored teachers in preparation for Florida Teacher Certification Exams.
